Julie and Bob Francis opened the doors in November of 2001 to service the growing running community before becoming a Marathon Sports location. The store is located in Branford’s beautiful town center and is the epicenter of the annual Branford Road Race.

Stony Creek Quarry

Stony Creek Quarry, renowned for its distinctive pink granite, has been used in some of the most significant projects in the United States. It was used in the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, the base of the Lincoln Memorial, and the Brooklyn Bridge. The quarry has been in operation since the mid-1800s and has always been a significant part of the local economy. Traditional extraction methods were used to remove the granite from the ground. Stony Creek granite is part of the Branford Gneiss formation, which is quite fascinating. Additionally, the quarry has played a vital role in the history and culture of the region and has even inspired artists and writers. Although the quarry doesn’t operate as much as it used to, it is still a crucial part of Branford’s heritage. Visitors can sometimes tour the site and participate in educational activities.

Branford was first settled in mid-1644 as part of the New Haven Colony and officially renamed in 1653 after the Town of Brentford, England. The 20th century has brought some changes to Branford, but much of its historical heritage remains in the form of old buildings and well-preserved villages.

Listed here are many of the historic homes as well as important architectural landmarks of Branford’s rich history.

Those who visit Branford can take in a seasonal cruise (or private charter) to our majestic archipelago of islands called the Thimble Islands. Branford’s Center is home to several shops, restaurants and coffee houses that line the Main Street along with the historic Town Green being at the center.
